Chef GöRan Streng


Göran V. Streng is the chef and co-owner of the Hale Aina and Ilima award winning Tangö Contemporary Café in Honolulu, Hawaii. Chef Streng utilizes Hawaii’s fresh bounty to create a discriminating style that suits today’s gourmet guests. Pacific Rim cuisine inspired by Scandinavian and American classics are characteristic of Chef Streng’s palate-pleasing culinary creations. His multiethnic epicurean education coupled with a firm background in classic cuisine blossoms in full color and flavor in his food.

 

A native of Finland, Chef Streng graduated from the Helsinki Hotel and Restaurant School and traveled for the Finnish Navy. After the Navy, Chef Streng worked in a variety of exotic and far-flung locales, from the Finnish Embassy in Yugoslavia to the four-star La Mer at the Halekulani Hotel on Oahu, the Ritz Carlton Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii to the internationally acclaimed Raffles Hotel in Singapore, Kapalua Bay Hotel on Maui and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii. Most recently he was the Executive Chef at Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki & Golf Club. Chef Streng has received certification as a Food & Beverage Executive by the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Motel Association. The certification is the lodging industry’s highest honor for food and beverage professionals.

 

Chef Streng is a member of the Hawaiian Island Chefs, a group of distinguished Hawaii chefs whose goal is to perpetuate Hawaii contemporary cuisine by supporting and encouraging diversified agriculture, aquaculture and culinary education.

 

Chef Streng participated in the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau’s (HVCB) 2000 “Chefs of Aloha! Hawaii’s Cuisine On Tour” program in San Francisco. Chef Streng was one of 11 Hawaii chefs chosen for the “Chefs of Aloha” cuisine program. He was among Hawaii’s talented chefs chosen to represent the state on behalf of HVCB in their “Aloha Cities” marketing program in 1999, the Society of American Travel Writers International Conference (SATW) 2001 in Bermuda and the James Beard House in New York in 2002.

 

He has been featured in Bon Appetite, Food & Wine, Aloha Magazine, Hana Hou!, Hawaii Magazine, The Anchorage Daily News, The Honolulu Advertiser and many international publications. Chef Streng has also been a guest on numerous television shows including “Hari’s Kitchen,” “Paradise Television,” “Sam Choy Cooking From The Heart,” “Hawaii’s Kitchen”, “Island Chefs” and “Yan Can Cook” in Singapore. Chef Streng’s recipes have been published in several cookbooks including “Thirty Three Chefs”, “the Hawaii Tailgate Cookbook”, “Raffles Hotel Cook Book” and the “Chefs of Aloha”.
